The date and kick-off time for May’s all-important and decisive 1872 Cup derby were today confirmed by URC.
Edinburgh Rugby will take on rivals Glasgow Warriors at BT
Murrayfield on Saturday 21 May (kick-off 6.30pm), as
Scotland’s best players go head-to-head on the final day of the season for the
1872 Cup, in a derby match-up that could also determine Champions Cup
qualification and the winner of the Scottish x Italian Shield.
Tickets for May’s blockbuster derby have been back on sale since
January, with all existing tickets (match tickets, season tickets and half
season tickets) valid for the decisive intercity clash at BT Murrayfield.
With over 15,000 tickets already sold for the regular season
finale, supporters are encouraged to secure their place at BT Murrayfield now while
the best seats are still available at Scotland’s national stadium.

The first leg of the 1872 Cup takes place at Scotstoun leg
this tonight (18 March, kick-off 7.35pm), with the return to
aggregate format over the two legs confirmed earlier this season.
The Edinburgh leg of the 1872 Cup traditionally attracts a bumper
crowd, with a record-breaking 27,437 turning out in 2019 before the pandemic
disrupted efforts to surpass that number ever since.
With the 1872 Cup derby decider date and kick-off now confirmed,
Edinburgh Rugby Managing Director Douglas Struth is encouraging supporters from
both sides of the M8 to get along to BT Murrayfield for the season finale.
He said: “We’re delighted to announce the date and kick-off time
for May’s 1872 Cup decider, with Saturday 21 May set to be a hugely exciting
finale to the URC as Scotland’s best players once again go head-to-head in the
world’s oldest intercity derby.
“With a 6.30pm kick-off in the good spring weather, we’re
encouraging fans from both clubs to get along to BT Murrayfield early, soak up
the derby atmosphere and make it a day to remember in the Scottish capital with
vital URC league points, and bragging rights, both up for grabs.
“The countdown to May’s decisive derby is well and truly on and
tonight’s opening leg at Scotstoun will only whet the appetite for rugby fans
up and down the country.”
