The Scottish rugby club that invented the game of Sevens is to adopt a one-off Army-style camouflage playing jersey in support of British Forces serving overseas.Melrose RFC, known worldwide as the home of the abbreviated game, is to wear the new strip for the 2010 Sevens season as a mark of respect for the bravery and sacrifice of our Service personnel.The Scottish rugby club that invented the game of Sevens is to adopt a one-off Army-style camouflage playing jersey in support of British Forces serving overseas.Melrose RFC, known worldwide as the home of the abbreviated game, is to wear the new strip for the 2010 Sevens season as a mark of respect for the bravery and sacrifice of our Service personnel.The limited-edition strip, designed by Melrose RFC kit sponsor Kukri Sports, will also be available to the general public on a first-come basis – with the Club making a donation to Poppy Scotland for each jersey sold. Club President Mike Dalgetty said that: “Everyone is immensely proud of the young men and women who are bravely serving their country and as a Club we wanted to do something to show our support.”The 127th staging of the Mathon Melrose Sevens (9th-10th April) will also see an Army team entered into the main competition, with a range of fundraising events also planned.”We are grateful to Melrose RFC for their support and hope that this imaginative and colourful shirt is a great success,” said Marianne Lee, Community Fundraiser, Poppy Scotland, formerly The Earl Haig Fund.Laura Cidzyn, the Kukri shirt designer, said that:  “It was really fun to work with this design, which breaks with Melrose tradition with a finished product that is both vibrant and inspiring.”The limited-edition replica jersey can be pre-ordered at www.melroserugbyshop.co.uk or by phone on 01896 822993.
