Scottish Rugby is saddened to learn of the death last week of former Jed-Forest rugby stalwart and club life member Eddie Renwick. He was 53.
Renwick, a prop forward, sustained a catastrophic injury while playing for Jed Thistle against Melrose in November 1988.
His father Jimmy said today: “Eddie never once complained about his accident. He always wanted to do what he could to help the club.”
That help included setting up the club website and social media and promoting hospitality initiatives including “Farmers’ Day” and “Ladies’ Day.”
“Eddie loved his music – you could hear it in Edinburgh when he played it in his room! He was a big influence on the tribute band nights at the rugby club,” added Jimmy.
Scottish Rugby’s own charity, the Murrayfield Injured Players Foundation, supported Eddie and on two occasions provided him with a specially adapted car.
MIPF Chair, Ian Rankin, said: “Eddie was a great, engaging rugby character, never maudlin and always determined to enjoy life. It was a privilege and very humbling to know him.”
Scottish Rugby extends its sincere condolences to Eddie’s parents, Jimmy and Sheelagh, brother Graeme and all other family and friends.
A service to remember Eddie Renwick will take place at Riverside Park, Jedburgh, home of Jedforest on Wednesday 22 May at 12.45pm. It will be followed by interment in Castlewood Cemetery, Castle Gate, Jedburgh TD8 6QD at 1.30pm to which all family and friends are welcome.
