One year to go: The Rugby World Cup 2027

The countdown is officially on. In one year’s time, the world’s best rugby nations will gather in Australia for the Rugby World Cup 2027. For Scotland, the tournament represents an opportunity to showcase our game on the global stage, build on recent momentum, and take on the very best in front of a passionate traveling support.

The Pool Stage Challenge

Scotland’s campaign in Pool D will see the meeting of familiar rivals and exciting tests across three key Sunday fixtures.

Gregor Townsend’s side open their tournament on Sunday 3 October (07:15 UK time) against Uruguay, returning to face a side that Scotland visited and conquered during the 2024 Skyscanner Americas Tour. One week later comes classic home nations clash on Sunday 10 October (10:45 UK time) as Scotland meet Ireland in a third consecutive World Cup pool stage meeting. The group campaign concludes on Sunday 17 October (07:45 UK time) against Portugal, following up on their entertaining visit to Scottish Gas Murrayfield in late 2024.

The 2027 Men’s Rugby World Cup is expanded to 24 teams, meaning fewer pool matches but an extra round of 16 stage, with Pool D winners set to face a third-placed country from another group; runners-up are slated to face the winners of Pool E.
