Portugal hung on to complete a 24-23 aggregate victory over Uruguay in Montevideo to book a place at the RWC finals for the first time. In a tough final game, which saw Uruguay down to 14 men for the majority of the match due to the sending off of lock Juan Bado, the Portuguese eventually lost out 18-12 but that meant they still had that single point advantage on aggregate.
