Preview: Scotland Women v Wales Women

17 Nov 2019

Wales visit Scotland with recent history suggesting the game will be a close one. No more than two points have separated the teams at full-time in three of the past four meetings, with Scotland last tasting victory in 2017.

RECENT RESULTS

2019 Scotland 15-17 Wales

2018 Wales 18-17 Scotland

2017 Scotland 15-14 Wales

Scotland have enjoyed a bright start to their season following a double victory over South Africa in their first ever tour as a squad and their first matches in the Southern Hemisphere.

The tour gave the team some invaluable time together during training and match-day situations.

Wales have spent lots of time together as well and have had two Autumn Test fixtures over the last two weekends. They lost away to Spain but followed it up by a final minute win against Ireland last weekend.

Scotland Head Coach Philip Doyle said: “We know that this is going to be a tough match against Wales. They are well drilled following their recent two Autumn Test matches against Spain and Ireland.

SCOTLAND SQUAD

This is a relatively experienced Scotland squad with Lisa Martin winning her 50th cap against Wales – the Saracens playmaker has faced the same opposition on eight previous occasions.

Both Jade Konkel and Emma Wassell earn their 39th caps in Scotstoun’s Sunday encounter, while Lisa Thomson and Megan Gaffney have reached 27 caps apiece. Skipper Rachel Malcolm has proved that 13 is lucky for some, becoming skipper having won that number of caps previously.

DOYLE MAKES HIS MARK

Head Coach Phillip Doyle takes charge of
his first match on Scottish soil, having led his squad to a landmark 2-0 series
win in South Africa in October. That whitewash contained no fewer than 14 tries
and an aggregate scoreline that read 85-20 in the Scots’ favour.
