Four players who have produced consistent performances in the Magners League for Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh this season have been called-up to the first Scotland squad session in the lead-up to next year’s RBS 6 Nations Championship. Back-row forwards Johnnie Beattie and Ross Rennie, prop Moray Low and stand-off Phil Godman have been added to those players who were part of Scotland’s World Cup preparation squad for the one-day gathering involving 44 players at Murrayfield on Monday 17 December. Back-row forwards Johnnie Beattie and Ross Rennie, prop Moray Low and stand-off Phil Godman have been added to those players who were part of Scotland’s World Cup preparation squad for the one-day gathering involving 44 players at Murrayfield on Monday 17 December. Also listed is hooker Dougie Hall, who made his return from the knee ligament injury that cost him his involvement in the World Cup, in Glasgow’s match against Connacht last week. Hadden said: “The consistent form of Beattie, Godman Low and Rennie has merited their return to the extended Scotland squad. “The squad session will be part World Cup debrief and, as usual, will have a strength and conditioning element and a rugby element.” Godman, 25, who was part of Scotland’s starting XV during last season’s Six Nations Championship, said: “It’s good to be back involved. Obviously missing out on the World Cup was disappointing but that’s been and gone and now it’s about looking forward and concentrating on playing well for Edinburgh.” Rennie, 21, a graduate of Scotland under-18, under-19, under-21 and Sevens teams, said: “I’m lucky enough to have had a run of games for Edinburgh after a really good pre-season so I’m feeling quite fresh.” Beattie, 22, said: “It was obviously a massive disappointment not to be involved in the World Cup preparation squad but I had a pretty good pre-season and Glasgow’s home record has been encouraging. For me and the rest of the boys just now it’s about doing the day in, day out graft for the club but it’s great news to have been included in the squad.” Low, 23, added: Last season was really good for me being involved with Scotland A and my aim this year has been to start as many games as I can for Glasgow and put in good performances. It’s brilliant to be included in the squad.
