Over 2000 Scotland and Wales fans joined together under the lights of Scotstoun on Friday night for the second instalment of Scotland’s 2023 Under-20 Six Nations campaign.

It was just ten minutes before a heave at the maul by Scotland got Rudi Brown over the line for the first try of the game. The conversion was missed by Richie Simpson.

A penalty awarded to Scotland for a no arms tackle allowed Ben Afshar to have his hand at kicking from afar – he slotted the ball right between the posts, giving Scotland another three points.

Wales’ Archie Hughes was then sent to the sin bin for not rolling away, leaving the visitors with fourteen men.

After an injury break, Scotland piled on the pressure and gave the Welsh defence a run for their money resulting in a second yellow for the visitors, this time to Dylan Kelleher-Griffiths.

Some excellent pressure and attack almost resulted in another try for the men-in-navy right at half time, but it was held up as the whistle was blown.

Wales applied the pressure and managed to bag their first try of the game thanks to Morgan Morse. Dan Edwards added the extras.

Soon after, Liam McConnell thought he had scored but the referee gave it as held up.

But Scotland were then awarded a penalty try for a collapse of the maul, and this resulted in a third yellow shown to the men-in-red.

Shortly after, Scotland were offside in the Wales 22, allowing them to add three points to their scoreboard in the form of a penalty kick.

The ball was then played out to the left-hand wing by Wales, which allowed Oli Andrew to stretch over the line, adding to the Welsh score. The conversion put Wales in front.

Scotland won a penalty of their own, which allowed Dan King to bring the hosts back into the lead by one point with a slot between the sticks.

King had two more kicks at goal in the final ten minutes, with one hitting the post and the other sailing wide after Wales were shown a fourth yellow card, but Scotland held on for a first win since March 2020.

Tickets are available here for Scotland U20’s other home fixtures, against Ireland on Friday 10 March (kick-off 7.15pm) and against Italy on Sunday 19th March (kick-off 2pm). Show your support to the young stars!
