Sarah Beaney Cup PREVIEW | Broughton aim to topple university champions

10 Nov 2017

Broughton host Edinburgh University in the third round of the Sarah Beaney Cup as the first of the BT Premier League sides enter the competition.

This Edinburgh derby sees two teams enjoying good runs of form targeting the chance to face the top four from the 2016/17 BT Premier League season in the quarter finals.

Home team Broughton are wary of the university’s quality both on and off the field having battled past Kirkcaldy in the previous round.

Head Coach of Broughton, Louise Forsyth, said: “I’m excited to welcome Edinburgh University to Wardie on Sunday.

“I’ve followed their progress closely and they have achieved so much in a short time, which is testament to their quality coaching and playing skills.

“We are not underestimating the challenge we face and are fully prepared to take the game to the students on Sunday.”

Visitors, Edinburgh University, have enjoyed an unbeaten season so far and are relishing the chance to take on another team enjoying some good results.

Head Coach of Edinburgh University, Claire Cruikshank, said: “We’re excited to be heading across the city to Broughton in the third round. The players have loved the competition so far. Broughton have had a great season, topping the table in BT National 1, so we’re expecting a tough and physical encounter.”

Ayr and Stirling County will also meet in the third round while BT Premiership sides, Watsonians and Cartha Queen’s Park, will take on Annan and Melrose respectively.

The top four from the 2016/17 BT Premier League season receive a bye for this round and will enter the draw in the next round to play the Round 3 winners.
