With Storm Dennis causing havoc across the country over the weekend the matches between Stirling County and Garioch and Howe Harlequins and Watsonians were postponed.

However, Corstorphine managed to move their Pool B match with Ayr to Edinburgh University’s Peffermill Playing Fields.

And the Edinburgh side turned on the style to win 103-5, Helen Lyon and Rebecca Bestwick leading the way with try hat-tricks.

Catherine McHardy (2), Emily Mullen (2), Rebecca More (2), Sula Callender (2), Karen Feeney, Lucy Minty and Lani Baird also scored for the victors.

Eric Jones, the Corstorphine head coach, said: “The conditions certainly focussed the minds and we dealt with the weather well.

“We got off to a quick start and continued that through the first half. There were some really good performances from the players and an excellent debut for Kaylee Fraser.

“We’ll now look ahead to playing Hillhead Jordanhill through in Glasgow this coming weekend, which should be an excellent game. We were six minutes away from a win at the end of 2019 in the semi-final, so we’ll be looking to go one better this time around.”

As Jones alluded to, Corstorphine are away to Glasgow to take on Hillhead Jordanhilll on 23 February and the hosts will also go into that one on the back of a win.

Hillhead Jordanhill defeated Heriot’s Blues 40-0 on Sunday in a match moved to Clydebank Community Sports Hub.

Sammy Beal (3), Jemma Forsyth (2) and Aimee Watson scored tries while Amanda Moore kicked five conversions.

Two matches also went ahead in the Women’s National Plate.

On Saturday Inverness Craig Dunain put in a cracking first half showing to lead 22-0 before Shetland fought back.

The visitors scored 17 points, but Inverness Craig Dunain held on 22-17 and earned a four try bonus point to make it two wins from two in Pool A.

Storm Dennis did not dampen the spirits of either team as they took to the field with determination, good humour and great spirit.

In the first half the hosts were playing downhill with the wind in their favour and their tries came from Julie Partridge, Jess Butler, Ruth Watts and Cat Knott with one conversion by Watts.

It was a game of two halves and Shetland took full advantage of heading down hill and the wind advantage in the second half earning them a losing bonus point.

Broughton have also won two from two in the same pool after a 22-7 win at Glasgow University.

Demi Brooks scored the first try for the visitors to Garscube before Martine McCann scored – and converted a try to put the students 7-5 up.

Charlotte Blair’s try, converted by Laura Kinghorn, put Broughton 12-7 up at the interval.

And after the break they earned a four try bonus point when Jess Kelleher and Jennifer Reid scored unconverted efforts.

The match between Oban Lorne and Kelso was called off while Annan were awarded a 28-0 win in their game against Kirkcaldy.

All matches in the Women’s National Bowl were postponed due to the weather.
