The match at Hughenden was keenly fought by both sides with the Edinburgh outfit just managing to come out on top to put them top of Pool B with three wins from three to date.

Hills took a losing bonus point from the game and are second in the pool. Their tries came from Amada Moore and Bex Francis.

Kiyomi Honjigawa and Rebecca Bestwick were the try scorers for the victors, the former kicking a penalty and a conversion too.

Eric Jones, the Corstorphine head coach, said: A great defensive performance set up this win.

“I think we defended for 90% of the first half, although our quick start sent us into the second half 7-5 up.

“It’s one of the best defensive efforts we have put in and it was a really good, competitive game.

“To go to Hills and get the win is pretty big for us. I think it’s about seven years since we have beaten Hills anywhere, never mind at Hughenden.”

This coming weekend Corstorphine host Stewartry and the Sirens will travel to the Cougars in fine fettle after they won 37-0 against Ayr on Sunday.

Lizzie Ballentine, Phaedra Snailham and Claire Manson all scored two tries at Greenlaw for the hosts while Sammy Durnan also crossed, and Lisa Ritchie kicked a conversion in the bonus point triumph.

Cartha Queens Park are top of Pool A after a 29-0 win at Garioch.

Tries in their bonus point win on the road came from Nikki Simpson, Lis Lawson, Ellie Sutherland, Samantha Djoh and Shona Jessiman with Sirri Topping kicking two conversions.

Next up Cartha take on Watsonians after the Myreside outfit defeated Stirling County on Sunday.

The match was moved to the 3G pitch at the Clydebank Community Sports Hub and Watsonians came out on top 26-5 with a four try bonus point.

Charlotte Runcie, Alison Orr (2), and Rebekah Nolan scored the Watsonians tries with Nicola Nightingale kicking three conversions. Katie McLaren scored County’s try.

In the National Plate two games beat the weather.

Broughton are top of Pool A with three wins from three after a 40-7 home win over Shetland at Portobello High School on Saturday.

Lauren Park led the way with two tries for the Edinburgh side, Jess Kerrecher, Sian Furniss, Lorna Murdoch and Kaylene Jensen also crossing. Kerrecher added 10 points with the boot in foul conditions.

On Sunday, West of Scotland won 15-10 at Kelso meaning they both have two victories from three in Pool B now.

One game went ahead in the National Bowl.

Isla Jack (2) and Jodie Greig scored tries for Peterhead, with Greig converting two, as they won 19-5 at home to Strathmore on Sunday.

It means that they currently top Pool B in that competition.
