Scotland 2020/21 Autumn Test campaign takes on a new look

31 Jul 2020

Scotland’s planned 2020/21 Autumn Test fixtures at BT Murrayfield will not go ahead with originally planned opponents as previously announced following World Rugby’s agreement to amend the international window, confirmed yesterday.

Specific details of the new international calendar are expected in the coming weeks with an exciting schedule of matches being developed for the recently announced Autumn Test campaign window of 24 October – 5 December.

Fans who purchased tickets for the original games will be communicated with by the end of August when we will know more regarding mass events.

BT Murrayfield was due to see Scotland host Argentina, New Zealand and Japan on consecutive weekends in November 2020.

Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, which stopped all professional and international rugby since March, World Rugby has now sanctioned temporary changes to the international test windows enabling the 2020 Guinness Six Nations to be concluded and additional matches to be scheduled.

Scotland head coach, Gregor Townsend said: “While it is disappointing not to play our original Summer and Autumn Test series as planned, it is great news we can now look forward to international rugby over a seven-week period before the end of the year.

“The players worked very hard and were making good progress in the Guinness Six Nations earlier in the year and these run of challenging Test matches gives us the ideal opportunity to improve further as a team.”

Chief Operating Officer, Dominic McKay said: “There has been an enormous amount of work being done in recent months to ensure we can play rugby back at BT Murrayfield this year.

“While our 2020 Autumn Tests against Argentina, New Zealand and Japan can’t go ahead as planned, we can instead look forward to an exciting series of international matches.

“We have had fantastic support from the Scottish Government throughout the Covid-19 crisis and continue to be in regular dialogue with them on such matters.”
