Scotland 7s reflect on their historic London 7s win
25 May 2016
Scotland 7s made history at the weekend, as they lifted the team’s first ever Cup on the World Series circuit after defeats of hosts England and USA in the quarter-final and semi-final respectively, and a 27-26 defeat of South Africa in an epic finale at Twickenham. Full round-up from London 7s We heard from some of the players as they touched backed down on home soil with silverware in hand. Here’s what they had to say: On the win… “Boys will enjoy this moment. We’ve put in a massive amount of effort over the past few days, and I’m just really honoured to say that I’m captain of the squad out there this weekend.” – Scott Wight”As for the win at Twickenham, well I can’t say enough about the spirit of the guys in the Scotland squad.” – Calum MacRae”I’ve been involved in some highs and lows with this group, and it’s amazing to have topped it all.” – James Fleming On the final and its dramatic finish…”To step up and make a brave play to get the ball back: those are the big moments that get you over the line in the final.” – Calum MacRae on Scott Wight’s quick restart after the hooter “We had to really try and force things and we threw everything at it. As I place the ball down for the inning try I then heard the final hooter sounding and then all the replacements ran on and the party began.” – Dougie Fife”When they went 26-15 up woth two minutes to go we kne we were going to have to push it, but we just threw everything at it and to come away with the victory was unbelievable” – Scott Riddell On the squad…”There isn’t a harder working group of boys who fill that Jersey with so much pride.” – James Fleming “As a group of players we are close-knit and I often think that it helps pull us through some tought ties when the odds are maybe against us.” – Scott Wight
