Scotland head into the quarter finals in Cape Town

England 24 – 26 Scotland 

Scotland started strong in their first pool match against in England. A bright start from captain Robbie Fergusson as he crashed over the line to take an early lead for Scotland. England followed suit shortly after but Scotland managed to hold their slight lead at the half-time whistle.

Half-time England 5-7 Scotland

England scored two quick tries in succession to pull away into the lead. Ross McCann saw a gap and sprinted from his half all the way to the scoreline for Scotland’s second try.

A superb solo effort from Sam Pecqueur put Scotland back into the lead with only a few minutes left to play. Scotland’s Femi Sofolarin put in one last-gasp try and Scotland defeated England in the first match of Pool C.

France 24-19 Scotland 

Scotland’s second Pool C match was against the strong French side and eventual winners of the group.

France started the match with a long period of possession. After a turnover, Scotland got the ball and Sam Pecqueur made the most of the space on the wing to get the first try of the game for Scotland.

Straight from the restart, Scotland’s Tom Brown dotted down after seeing a space in the France attack.

It was a yellow card for Ally Miller and France capitalised on the extra player to score their first try just before the half-time hooter.

Half-time France 5-14 Scotland

France opened up the scoring in the second half, but Scotland still maintained an early lead thanks to their strong start. Miller is given a second yellow card so sent off for the rest of the match due to a high tackle. This was the momentum that France needed to soar into the lead.

A final try is given to Scotland after McCann sped down the wings and offloaded to Sofolarin who dived over the line. It was not enough though and France won the match.

Spain 19-22 Scotland

The final pool match for Scotland and it was an exciting one!

Tom Brown opened up the scoring with a try for Scotland to take an early lead. Spain scored quickly after though as they spotted an opportunity to steal the ball from the back of a ruck.

Femi Sofolarin then sprinted down the wings with two Spain players on him. He dove over the line but lost control of the ball and the try was not awarded. Max McFarland managed to get the try that Scotland were after straight away though. The ball came out the back of the scrum, he grabbed it and went straight for the whitewash.

Spain returned with a try of their own just before the half-time whistle though and took the lead once again.

Half-time Spain 14-12 Scotland

Sam Pecqueur scored for Scotland at the start of the first half as he darted down the blindside to score in the corner. He followed it quickly after with a second try following a team effort to get the ball to him on the wing. Spain finished the match with one final try but it wasn’t enough.
