Scotland launch new match kit for 2020/21 season

For Scotland’s men and women the traditional navy-blue shirt features touches of white and gold and carries an embossed tartan effect, while the reintroduction of white shorts and navy socks represents a return to some of the most iconic Scottish kits of the past.

The incorporation of gold into the design commemorates the upcoming 150th anniversary of the first ever international rugby match, played between Scotland and England at Raeburn Place in Edinburgh in 1871.

The kit is produced with the Macron-designed ARMEVO + Bodytex fabric and boasts a traditional polo-neck collar with gold piping to complement its classic look.

The Scotland ‘Alternate’ shirt returns to white for the first time since the 2017/18 season, paired with navy shorts and predominantly white socks. It again features the same gold detailing from the home kit on the sleeves, complemented with navy and includes an embossed tartan effect on the back.

Both kits have the Scotland thistle emblem embroidered on the left-hand side of the chest, with the Macron ‘Hero’ logo appearing on the right-hand side. The Saltire returns on the back and is embroidered below the collar.

Scotland Sevens will be sporting a predominantly vibrant raspberry ‘Alternate’ kit for the 2020/21 campaign, with navy piping featuring on the sleeves, hem and collar; the design showcasing Argyle pattern panels across the centre with navy stitching to match the current home kit. Paired with raspberry shorts and socks, complete with navy detailing, it is designed to represent the carnival atmosphere associated with the abbreviated format of the game.

Scottish Rugby’s Chief Operating Officer, Dominic McKay, said: “In the season which includes the 150th anniversary of the first ever international rugby match, we felt it appropriate that the match kits to be worn by all of our National Teams have a very traditional look, albeit with a modern twist. As ever we are indebted to Macron for designing and producing such striking kits which I am certain will be popular with players and fans alike.

“The fact that Macron will be opening a Scottish Rugby retail store in Central Glasgow in the coming weeks again demonstrates the depth and value of our partnership as well as being great news for our supporters in the West of Scotland.”

Scottish Rugby’s Principle Partner, BT, features on the front of shirt and back of the shorts on both Scotland and Scotland 7s kits and a new-look SP Energy Networks logo is displayed on the front of Scotland Women’s home kit.

Kits can be purchased exclusively in-store at the Scottish Rugby Store at BT Murrayfield or online at shop.scottishrugby.org from Friday 28 August 2020 and from other Macron authorised stockists as of Friday 4 September 2020.
