Scotland Rugby Stars Try Ford
26 Aug 2011
Scottish rugby stars John Barclay and Geoff Cross have chosen Ford Focus and Ford Kuga models to run with for the new season. They collected their vehicles yesterday, two days after being named in the 30-man squad to represent Scotland in New Zealand later this year. Geoff Cross, prop for Edinburgh Rugby, is one of 12 players selected for the premier global rugby tournament for the first time, while John Barclay, flanker for Glasgow Warriors, made his debut in 2007 and has since won 29 international caps. Anthony Ireson, marketing director, Ford of Britain, said: As we celebrate our centenary, it is only appropriate that Ford should continue our relationship with the game of rugby. We are delighted to extend our contract with Scottish Rugby and to provide these rugby stars with models from Ford’s product range – the Ford Kuga and all-new Ford Focus. Ford is confirming its ongoing sponsorship of Scottish Rugby as the official vehicle supplier to Scottish Rugby and Ford has a large presence in Scotland with over 65 Ford dealerships, selling almost 12,000 cars in the first seven months of the year. Ford has sponsored Scottish Rugby since 2007. The Scotland rugby team is due to fly to the southern hemisphere this weekend to begin training ahead of their first match against Romania, in Invercargill on Saturday 10 September. They then face Georgia in Invercargill on Wednesday 14 September, Argentina in Wellington on Sunday 25 September and play their final pool match against England in Auckland on Saturday 1 October.
