Scotland To Face Italy In Rome’S Biggest Stadium
13 Jul 2011
Scotland’s match against Italy in Rome in next year’s RBS 6 Nations Championship will be staged at a new venue. The Italian Rugby Federation (FIR) confirmed today that for the first time in the competition since Italy were admitted to the Six Nations Championship in 2000 – and Scotland were their first opponents – they will move away from the Stadio Flaminio in Rome. Instead, they will play at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome – a stadium which offers space for more than 50,000 extra supporters, compared to the capacity at Flaminio of around 27,000. The stadium, which hosted the summer Olympics in 1960, is home to Lazio and Roma football clubs. Scotland will play Italy there on Saturday 17 March with a 12.30pm kick-off UK time. Details of ticket availability and prices have yet to be released to Scottish Rugby but when we are advised we will update on this website. Meanwhile, supporters can buy their tickets now on this website from£5 for children and students and from£10 for adults for the EMC Test between Scotland and Italy at Murrayfield on Saturday 20 August, kick-off 5pm. The match will be the last chance for players in the Scotland team to secure their place in Andy Robinson’s squad for the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. The 30-man Scotland squad for the tournament will be announced on Monday 22 August. Two weeks before, the game against the Azzurri, Scotland play Ireland, also at Murrayfield, with a 2.15pm kick-off.
