Scotland under-20 side named for play-off clash

Head Coach John Dalziel has made three changes -two personnel and one positional – to his starting side who defeated Italy 27-19 last Wednesday, to play Australia in the World Rugby Under-20 Championship 5th-8th play-offs tomorrow at AJ Bell Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm) – livestreamed on worldrugby.org. All three changes are in the forward pack, where Lewis Anderson comes into replace Jake Kerr at hooker and Lewis Wynne replaces Matt Smith in the back-row.With Wynne’s inclusion, Jamie Ritchie moves from blindside to openside flanker.Scotland under-20 met their Australian counterparts at the same venue in the opening round of the tournament, where Dalziel’s men came out on top, 15-10.Dalziel said: “We’ve named a settled side to take on Australia for the second-time in this tournament.”Having faced them in the first round of the competition, we know how much of a challenge they’ll pose. They’ll be big, physical and astute, and they’ll be looking to make amends from the loss they suffered against us in the opening game.”It’s all to play for in the play-off stages, as a win in this game would guarantee a highest ever finish for Scotland under-20 in the World Championship.”In an otherwise unchanged side, try-scorers against Italy full-back Blair Kinghorn and wing Robbie Nairn continue in the back-three alongside Ben Robbins.After making his first Scotland under-20 start in the victory over Italy, Matt McPhillips continues at inside centre with Tom Galbraith partnering him in the midfield.Scrum-half Hugh Fraser makes his fourth start of the tournament, with Adam Hastings occupying the stand-off berth to complete the back-line.In the front-row, Murray McCallum and Zander Fagerson join Anderson, while Scott Cummings and Callum Hunter-Hill continue their second-row partnership.Ally Miller retains his spot at number eight, with Wynne wearing the number six shirt and Ritchie packing down on the openside flank.  Injury updateHooker Jake Kerr is forced out of playing a further part in the tournament due to sustaining a concussion against Italy. Hawick’s Fraser Renwick, who will start on the bench against Australia, is named as his replacement. Back-row Matt Smith will take no further part in the World Rugby Under-20 Championship, due to an ankle injury sustained in the last round of the pool stages. Smith’s replacement will be named in due course. Centre George Taylor also leaves the camp after fracturing his jaw earlier in the tournament.
