Scotland Women 7s heading to Hong Kong

Scotland Women 7s success in 2018 has meant the team have been invited to take part in the HSBC World Sevens Series Qualifier in Hong Kong next month.

Scotland Women 7s success in 2018 has meant the team have been invited to take part in the HSBC World Sevens Series Qualifier in Hong Kong next month.

Scotland placed fourth at the end of the Rugby Europe Women’s 7s Grand Prix Series which finished in Kazan in September. Placed above them were Russia, France and Ireland who are already core members of the World Series tournament. This result means Scotland, alongside Belgium and Poland, will be the three European representatives in Hong Kong next month, aiming to join the World Sevens Series.

The fourth place finish in the 2018 Grand Prix also means that Scotland will take part in the final leg of this season’s HSBC World Sevens Series which will be held in Biarritz in June.

If Scotland are successful in the Hong Kong qualifiers, they will be invited to take part in the HSBC World Sevens Series 2019/2020 season, with the first leg in October.

Scotland Womens 7s Head Coach Scott Forrest said: “The opportunity to play in the World Series Qualifier is a great reward for the team’s success last season. They performed well in both Rugby Europe tournaments last season and to finish 3rd in Kazan and 4th overall in the Grand Prix was a result of their hard work.

“Hong Kong is a very special place to play 7s and will be a new experience for all the players. We are looking forward to competing at this level and the challenge for the squad will be to build on the performances from last season.”
