Scotland Women 7s squad announced for Rugby Europe series

22 Jun 2022

Head Coach Scott Forrest has today named his Scotland Women 7s squad for the upcoming Rugby Europe Women’s 7s Championship series.

Scotland will travel to Lisbon later this week for the first leg of the series, with the side joining Germany, Ireland, Spain and Romania in Pool B.

Scotland’s first match on Saturday will see the side face Germany (11.06am BST), before taking on Ireland later in the afternoon (1.36pm BST). Their final match on Saturday is against Spain (4.06pm BST). Scotland will get back underway on Sunday morning at Jamor Stadium as they face Romania (9.22am BST).

Scotland will be looking to build on their impressive performance at the HSBC World Series event in Toulouse, as the invitational side secured back-to-back victories against England and South Africa to claim a ninth place finish overall.

Stirling County’s Evie Gallagher returns to the programme, having last played for Scotland 7s in Marcoussis in 2018, while Eilidh Sinclair will make her first appearance since 2019, when Scotland competed on the World Series stage for the first time, in Biarritz.

Of the 13 players named in the squad, 10 featured in last year’s Rugby Europe Sevens Championship series in Lisbon and Moscow, with the squad making history last June as they qualified for this year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, following a formidable campaign at the Rugby Europe tournament.

Forrest said: “Toulouse was a brilliant experience for the squad and to claim two victories against England and South Africa just showed the type of performance that this group are capable of producing on the world stage.

“Rugby Europe is always a really good competition for our programme and we know that we will be facing World Series level opposition over the course of both events. We’ve had a solid four weeks of preparation for this tournament and we are really looking forward to the next two weeks.

“Ultimately, the events in Lisbon and Krakow provide the perfect opportunity to test ourselves ahead of the Commonwealth Games later this summer.”

The second leg of the Rugby Europe Women’s 7s Championship Series will see Scotland travel to Krakow the following weekend, with all the action across both events being broadcast live on Rugby Europe.
