Scotland’s Teams in Action: Weekend Round-Up

26 Jan 2026

It was a busy weekend for Scottish rugby, with teams in action across the United Rugby Championship and Celtic Challenge. Glasgow Warriors secured a key away win in Italy, Edinburgh men fought hard in a narrow home defeat to the Bulls, while both Glasgow and Edinburgh women faced tough challenges in the Celtic Challenge.

Weekend Snapshot

  • Glasgow Warriors Men: 26–21 URC victory away to Zebre Parma — bonus point and top-of-table momentum.

  • Edinburgh Rugby Men: 19–21 URC defeat to Vodacom Bulls — strong first half, lessons to build on.

  • Edinburgh Rugby Women: 7–43 Celtic Challenge defeat — competitive phases and growth to build on.

  • Glasgow Warriors Women: 26–52 Celtic Challenge loss to Wolfhounds — strong second-half fight shows promise.

Edinburgh edged out after Bulls fightback

Edinburgh Rugby suffered a narrow 21–19 defeat to the Vodacom Bulls at Hive Stadium, despite a dominant first-half performance that saw the home side race into a 19–7 lead. The Bulls’ physical response after the break proved decisive, as the South African side edged ahead late on to hand Edinburgh their first home loss of the season. Strong displays across the Edinburgh pack and promising moments from younger players highlighted the team’s potential, offering lessons to build on as the URC season continues.

Glasgow Warriors Men – URC in Parma

Glasgow Warriors maintained strong form in the United Rugby Championship with a 26–21 victory away to Zebre Parma. The Warriors set the tone early with physical forward play and clinical execution, including tries from Gregor Hiddleston and Adam Hastings. Although Zebre fought back late, Glasgow’s defensive resilience secured a bonus-point win and kept them right at the top of the URC standings.

Edinburgh Rugby Women — Celtic Challenge

Edinburgh Rugby Women continued their Celtic Challenge campaign with a competitive showing at the Hive Stadium, ultimately losing 43–7 to Gwalia Lightning. The young and developing Edinburgh side kept the match tight for much of the first half and earned a penalty try, but Gwalia’s experience and finishing ability proved decisive after the break. Edinburgh will look to take the lessons from this one into next week’s fixture.

Glasgow Warriors Women — Celtic Challenge

Across the Celtic Challenge this weekend, Glasgow Warriors Women suffered a 52–26 defeat to the Wolfhounds in a high-scoring encounter in Cork. The Irish side took control early, running in six first-half tries and holding the Warriors scoreless at the interval, but Glasgow responded with spirit in the second half with four tries of their own. This match highlighted the continued progression of Glasgow Warriors Women within the cross-border competition.
