Scots Eighth After Sixth Event

Scotland took four points from the Australian leg of the IRB Sevens World Series and currently lie in eighth position, on 18 points between Australia (26) and Kenya (16) after six events on the circuit. Adelaide was won by Fiji to increase their lead at the top of the series table.  After going down 40-14 to New Zealand in the Cup quarter-finals at the Adelaide Sevens this weekend, Scotland were pitted against South Africa in the plate semi finals. Despite a second half try from Mike Adamson, the southern hemisphere opponents won the match 42-5.  There’s now a break to regroup and prepare before the final two events in this season’s IRB series – the London Sevens (26/27 May) and the Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s (2/3 June) at Murrayfield. This final leg in the 2006/07 tournament sees sevens come home to Scotland with a thrills-and-spills weekend of fast-flowing action backed by a non-stop party atmosphere. After struggling in the first half, finding themselves 26-0 down, the Scots then rallied through two tries from Max Evans to finish the game 26-10.  A win, albeit in a nailbiting finish, against Argentina (24-19) saw two tries from Ben Addison and one apiece from Scott Forrest and Ross Rennie.  Then in the final pool game against Portugal, Scotland secured a spot in the cup quarter finals with a 19-5 win over their European neighbours with tries from Evans, Jamie Hunter and Roddy Grant. The quarter-final match pitted Scotland against New Zealand, currently placed second in the series, who won all their pool games – including the last against hosts Australia – to top their group.
