Scottish Rugby appoints new President, the first female for a Tier 1 rugby nation

Describing
her intention to represent Scotland’s clubs and advance Scotland’s standing on
the international stage, Dee takes on the role previously held by Rob
Flockhart, the out-going President from Boroughmuir, having previously been
voted as Vice-President in 2016.

Scottish Rugby President, Dee Bradbury, said: “I am humbled to be
appointed as Scottish Rugby President today and promise to work diligently with
all of our stakeholders in order to continue our progress at home and on the
international stage.

“As President, it is my job to represent Scotland’s rugby clubs and ensure
their voices are heard. This is something I intend to do with honesty,
transparency and objectivity.

“The
Scotland team reached a high of 5th in the World Rugby Rankings last season,
and Scottish Rugby achieved increased turnover and reduced debt. I firmly
believe that with the Executive Team, Council, Board and coaching staff we have
at Scottish Rugby, we can go even further.”

Dee
currently sits as Scottish Rugby’s representative to Rugby Europe and is also
on its Women’s Committee. A founding member of the women’s section at Oban
Lorne RFC, Dee is now the club’s Honorary President.

She
was a Police Officer with Strathclyde Police and latterly Police Scotland and
is now retired. An accomplished athlete, Dee has represented Scotland and GB in
athletics and previously managed Scotland Women U18.

Colin
Grassie, Scottish Rugby Chairman, said: “I have enjoyed getting to know Dee
during her time as Vice-President and I am sure she will bring passion and
integrity to the role of President.

“Her
appointment is a significant one, and comes at a time when Scottish Rugby’s
ambitions at home and abroad continue to grow.

“As
a former player and having held various positions at her club and at Scottish
Rugby, I know Dee will be a great ambassador for our country and our sport.”

Ian
Barr from Lasswade RFC was voted as Vice-President, also on a two-year term.
