Scottish Rugby has played its part to make a 16-year-old Ayrshire boy’s dream come true. Les Hoey a charity worker from Wishaw contacted Scottish Rugby. He told us about Ewan Lauchland a boy who had always dreamt of coming to Murrayfield to see the national side play. The young Scot was diagnosed with bone cancer in January 2010 and subsequently lost his lower leg through it. He has now under gone nine months chemotherapy and is coping well with his prosthesis, with his recovery under way.Ewan was a keen rugby player and played on the wing for his school St Columba’s in Kilmacolm.Scottish Rugby made his dream come true by giving him and his family complimentary tickets to last Sunday’s RBS 6 Nations Championship match against Ireland.Ewan and his parents had a great day out at Murrayfield and enjoyed every minute of the experience-despite Scotland’s near loss, from when they got here to when they left. Currently studying his Highers, Ewan is planning to pursue architecture at university, so the day also gave him the opportunity to soak up the intricate design of the stadium. On the whole the Lauchland family had a memorable day and are hoping to return for the game against Italy.Another bonus from the day, was giving Ewan’s parents, Alastair and Rosalind, a chance to re-live their youth as they used to attend international games at Murrayfield in the 70s and had not returned since it had been revamped.Ewan enjoyed his first ever Murrayfield experience and Scottish Rugby is proud to have played a part in making his dream come true.He told www.scottishrugby.org: “It was nice to go to see Murrayfield. It seems smaller than it looks on TV. I have always wanted to go and see the team play and it was a great day, I would definitely like to come back and visit Murrayfield again and hopefully see Scotland win!”
