Scottish Rugby tackles touts with new online guide

6 Feb 2020

Scottish Rugby has launched a new online portal ahead of its first home game of the 2020 Guinness Six Nations to help stamp out ticket touts ripping off real rugby fans.

With a proactive zero-tolerance policy now in place on any re-selling of tickets in place through its terms and conditions Scottish Rugby is actively cancelling seats offered online at inflated prices in a bid to ensure only the face value is paid for visit to BT Murrayfield.

To help fans understand how to buy safely, without fear of purchasing a cancelled ticket, a new online guide has been launched using the tagline “If in doubt, give us a shout” with staff on hand to ensure all ticket purchases are valid and real fans won’t be denied entry to the ground.

Scottish Rugby’s Chief Operating Officer, Dominic McKay said: “Ensuring our tickets are available at face value to our fans is an absolute priority for us and whilst the work going into tackling touts is significant, we are committed to educating our fans and supporting them to purchase tickets safely and securely.

“We have recently launched on our website new dynamic FAQs which includes guidance on this and will continue to work hard with our fans to prevent the sale of our tickets in contravention of our terms and conditions.”

Scottish Rugby has committed increased resource, both staff time and numbers, into its customer service provision which includes performing booking audits to identify activity that breaches ticketing terms and conditions in relation to re-selling tickets.

Fans are being urged to contact Scottish Rugby in confidence in relation to any unauthorised ticket sales and make life difficult for touts who target big matches in the rugby calendar.

Fans have been backing the Scotland team to record levels in recent years with a run of 15 successive sell-outs recorded up to summer 2019, with capacity crowds continuing again into 2020 with sold out games versus England and France in the Guinness Six Nations already achieved.

Almost 8,000 three-match 2020 Autumn Test Packages went on sale in December and sold out within an hour and there will a further sale of 2020 Autumn Test Packages in early May.
