Scottish Rugby Union appoints first two-year term President at 2016 AGM

Rob Flockhart, representing Boroughmuir, was ratified as Scottish Rugby’s first two-year term President at the 2016 Annual General Meeting.Describing the appointment as a combination of a ‘privilege, a responsibility and a challenge” he takes on the role in place of Edward Crozier, the out-going President from Cartha Queens Park club, having previously been voted as Vice-President in 2015.Speaking immediately after the meeting Rob said the game in Scotland was in an improving place with which to take forward his objectives of ensuring a coordinated, collegiate approach to working with all stakeholders in the game.Scottish Rugby President, Rob Flockhart:I am very keen, having spent this past year learning to ensure that there is strong trust, between the stakeholders, the clubs, the Council and the Board, that is where we start.That allows us to move forward with the club game to develop it and make it more sustainable.”I think now what Mark Dodson and the executive team have done in making sure the professional game is on a solid footing, is fantastic. It allows us, with the debt where it is, to start thinking about how we drive forward and sustain the domestic game in Scotland,” he said.Rob Flockhart has served the game in Scotland at almost every level ahead of his appointment as President.A retired solicitor, he has previously been a team manager for Scotland representative teams and a national team selector.Rob is also a respected international citing commissioner. During his playing career, which gained him representative honours with Edinburgh, Rob turned out for Melrose, Boroughmuir, Corstorphine, Panmure as well as Edinburgh University and High School of Dundee.On a personal level he described the opportunity to serve as President as ‘fantastic’.It’s a huge opportunity, very exciting and it is a privilege, but it’s much more than a privilege. You owe it to so many people to get on and develop the important things in the game.”Among the challenges Rob sees in the two years ahead will be helping to ensure clubs become more sustainable and helping ambitious clubs move forward as directives for both his role and that of the Union more widely.Dee Bradbury of Oban Lorne RFC was voted as Vice-President, also on a two-year term, at the meeting by member clubs.Previous Scottish Rugby Union Presidents have served two one-year terms. Rob Flockhart becomes the first two-year term appointment.
