Scouting the Flying Fijians: Senirusi Seruvakula’s Fiji Squad

15 Jul 2026

The Nations Championship finally arrives in Scotland. Take a look at the Fiji squad that will come to Scottish Gas Murrayfield to host the third round of the new tournament.

Scotland's Rory Darge leads his side out onto the pitch during a Skyscanner Pacific Tour match between Fiji and Scotland at the HFC Bank Stadium, on July 12, 2025, in Suva, Fiji.

Following two matches on the road that saw victory in Argentina and a hard-fought defeat in South Africa, Scotland wrap up the July leg of the inaugural Nations Championship campaign with a unique fixture at Scottish Gas Murrayfield. Though designated as an away match within the official competition schedule, Fiji have will bring their home tie to Edinburgh on Saturday 18 July (kick-off at 2:10pm) as part of a multi-city northern hemisphere residency.

Despite a difficult opening two rounds for the Flying Fijians, the side has demonstrated all of the attacking flair that fans have come to expect from the Pacific Island nation.

Under the guidance of Seruvakula

Fiji are currently operating under the guidance of acting head coach Senirusi Seruvakula, who assumed control of the senior men’s programme following the departure of Mick Byrne in April. A highly respected figure within the national pathway, Seruvakula was a former player and head coach of the Fijian Women’s team. While Byrne laid much of the physical set-piece foundation during his tenure, Seruvakula’s interim regime has focused on restoring the traditional high-tempo, offloading game that makes the Flying Fijians so dangerous in open space.

The selection strategy

With the squad only convening a few weeks prior to the July Tests, Seruvakula has selected a matchday pool that consists of those operating out of Super Rugby as well as players who have travelled abroad to play their rugby in Europe. The spine of the team is made up by players out of the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua franchise, providing internal familiarity within the squad. However, the coaching staff has re-integrated their northern hemisphere stars to inject physical power into the pack and explosive running lines across the back line.

Key players for Fiji

On Saturday, Scotland will face a roster loaded with world-class offensive threats who possess all the tools to find the whitewash. Chief among them is winger Jiuta Wainiqolo, who enters the international window after finishing the domestic season as the top try-scorer in the French Top 14 ahead of the likes of Louis Bielle-Biarrey. This form has followed him into the Nations Championship where Wainqolo sat behind only Kyle Rowe in metres made after the first round. He is paired in the outside channels by veteran midfielder Josua Tuisova, whose physical ball-carrying capability has frequently earned him the moniker of a “Human Bulldozer.”

The midfield options are further strengthened by dynamic centre Kalaveti Ravouvou. The 28-year-old centre currently plays his club rugby for Bristol Bears, giving him direct domestic familiarity with Scotland stand-off Tom Jordan. Ravouvou recently picked up Men’s Back of the Season as well as Men’s Try of the Season at the Gallagher Prem side’s end of season awards.
