Sponsor celebrates first Academy cap

Glasgow Warriors’ hooker Grant Stewart has become the first graduate from the Scottish Rugby Academy to earn full international honours since new title sponsor Fosroc came on board last year.
The 24-year old began his career at Strathaven and went on to represent Dalziel then Glasgow Hawks as he secured a place at the Fosroc Scottish Rugby Academy before turning professional with Warriors in December 2018.
With four regional Academy centres across Scotland the Fosroc Academy develops male and female players and has close links to the country’s two professional teams.
Grant has trained with the Scotland squad this summer and won his first cap off the bench at BT Murrayfield in the victory over France in August.
Speaking before the final 2019 Summer Test against Georgia, which could see him win his second Scotland cap, Grant said: “The Academy certainly helped me to prepare physically as the pro game is a big step up and also mentally. We had people come in a help with the mental side as well, how often we were training, and how we cope with the demands of the game.”
He also reflected on how his playing career had progressed so far.
“I did think back to the different steps the night before the France game and then to come on and make my debut here was really nice,” he added.
Fosroc became the title sponsor of the Scottish Rugby Academy in July 2018 and the international construction solutions firm has been keen to support the players on and off the pitch.
Ian Watt, CEO of Fosroc said: “When we took on the title sponsorship of the Scottish Rugby Academy last year, we wanted to contribute to the development of the next generation of Scotland players and so it was a moment of real pride when Grant took the field against France.
“To make your Scotland debut at BT Murrayfield is very special and we are confident many more Academy graduates will follow in Grant’s footsteps.”
