Star-studded final beckons at BT Murrayfield
4 Apr 2017
A star-studded and pan-European Champions Cup final beckons at BT Murrayfield next month as the four teams left in the world’s biggest club tournament represent the Aviva Premiership, the Guinness PRO12 and the French TOP 14.Of the four semi-finalists, only Clermont have yet to win the covetted Cup – having twice been runners-up – Saracens continue their title defence as reigning champions, while Leinster have won three times and Munster twice.Semi-finalsClermont face old adversaries Leinster, who have twice before beaten them in the knock out stages, winning 29-28 in Dublin in the 2010 quarter-finals and 19-15 in the 2012 semi-finals in Bordeaux.A handful of Leinster players are aiming for a record-equalling fourth European Cup winners’ medal, having been part of the Leinster side that won their first title at BT Murrayfield in 2009.The challenge for the reigning champions Saracens awaits in Dublin, where they face Munster, in what will be a record-equalling fifth successive semi-final and target their first one away from home.In their five previous appearances in the final four (2008 and 2013 to 16) they have played in England on four occasions and were beaten by Clermont in Saint Etienne, in their only away tie. That narrow defeat in 2015, was the last time Saracens were beaten in the tournament. Since then they have won 15 and drawn one and will be looking to match Leinster’s record of 17 games without defeat when they play at the Aviva Stadium.Whoever reaches the European Rugby Champions Cup Final at BT Murrayfield on Saturday 13 May, it promises to be a classic littered with a large proportion of the best players the European game can offer.Tickets for the European Rugby Champions Cup Final (formerly Heineken Cup) on Saturday 13 May are available from epcrugby.comBUY YOUR EUROPEAN RUGBY CHAMPIONS CUP FINAL TICKETS NOW!
