The renowned camp, which has been attended by numerous international players over the years, has fallen victim to the heavy rains over the last eight weeks. More than 200 young people have gone home a day early from the Scottish Schoolboys’ Club mixed camp this week and although SSC volunteers were working hard to move tents into other areas of the campsite the forecast is for more rain and this would make life more difficult. An SSC spokesperson said: “We have coped with rain before and the conditions are challenging so cancelling the rugby camp is regrettable but the safety and welfare of the players comes first. “The final decision was made at 4pm on Thursday. SSC organisers and Scottish Rugby staff will be working tonight and tomorrow to inform all those players due to arrive on Saturday.” The SRU/SSC Rugby Camp hosts nearly 200 of Scotland’s best young players aged between 14 and 17 years every summer at Struan in Perthshire.
