Following their two initial training weekends as a squad, Scotland’s under-17 development side look to put their learning into practice this weekend with a fixture against their English counterparts at West Park, Leeds on Sunday (kick-off 1pm). Head coach Davy Wilson said: “The boys coming into the programme have had to pick up a lot of information in a short time. There have been a lot of positives over the last two weekends plus plenty to work on and improve and Sunday will be a good opportunity to measure how far they’ve come. Photo: Scotland’s under-17 team in 2010 take on Canada “As much as you want to win, what’s equally important is to develop these young guys as players and we’re looking for an incremental progression as we build towards the Wellington Festival later this month and the match against France in May. “I hope we can go out there on Sunday, put into practice what we’ve been working on and give a good account of ourselves. We’re really looking forward to what will be a massive day for the whole team.” Scotland then travel to Berkshire to participate in the Wellington Festival, which takes place from 16 to 22 April. Belgium, Canada, France A, England Reds and England Blues under-16 teams, English Divisions North and English Divisions Midlands join the Scots at the tournament, the successor to the Millfield Festival, which fostered the likes of Glasgow Warriors and Scotland’s Richie Gray. England Reds will kick-off the Wellington Festival on April 17 when they play Canada at 11am. England Blues will then face Belgium at 1.30pm with Scotland and France A wrapping up the opening day at 3.30pm. On April 19 Scotland play England Blues at 11am followed by Canada v Belgium at 1pm and England Reds v France A at 3.30pm. The festival concludes on April 22 when the two English Divisions will join the six other sides with England Blues v English Division (North) at 10am, England Reds v Scotland at 11am, Belgium v English Division (Midlands) at 12noon and Canada v France A at 1pm. Philiphaugh RFC then hosts Scotland under-17s as they take on France under-17s in Selkirk on Sunday 1 May (kick-off 2pm, admission free).
