Tennent’s Women’s Premiership & National 1 Preview | 5 & 6 November

Kick starting Round 10 of the competition, it’s West versus East as Hillhead Jordanhill host Heriot’s Blues at Hughenden.

This will be the first time the two sides have met this season, as this fixture had previously been scheduled earlier in year, but play was suspended in light of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

On paper, the two sides have weaved a similar path this season so far as they sit mid table with Hills on four wins from seven, and Blues on three wins from seven.

Hills enjoyed a solid 58-5 win over Garioch when they last played on Sunday 23 October, and will be hopeful of maintaining this strong form.

The Blues on the other hand have missed the mark on their last two fixtures, although last week’s loss to Cougars was by a mere two points (13-11).

A bonus point win from the Blues this weekend could see them overtake Hills and move back into a play-off spot.

Elsewhere in the competition, league leaders Stirling County will travel north to league newcomers, Garioch.

Again, this is another fixture where the two sides have yet to meet in the season so far.

With Stirling back on a winning streak with three in a row, the midlands team will be eager to press on and extend their lead at the top of the table.

This will be a tough contest for Garioch, who are still searching for their first win of the season, but with continued improved performances, and a game on their home turf, this should give the north-east team some confidence going into the match.

The fixture between Cougars and Watsonians has been awarded as a 28-0 in favour of the hosts, with Watsonians unable to field a team. This now boosts Cougars standings in the table to 32 points.

TENNENT’S NATIONAL 1

With just three rounds of the league left to go, Tennent’s National 1 is beginning to heat up.

Having taken a break last week, all six teams will be looking forward to getting back on the pitch this Sunday.

Kicking things off, Broughton will host Biggar at Wardie. When these two sides previously met in September, Biggar ran away with the win 54-12.

Although they won their first four games of the season, Biggar have taken a slight dip, losing their last two games. Despite this, they are still sitting second in the league, ahead of Ayr on points difference. Biggar will be hopeful that a win this weekend could further cement their spot in the standings.

For Broughton, in spite of a loss to Ayr in the last round (5-51), the Edinburgh side has continued to make good progress in the league, securing a bonus point win over West of Scotland just three weeks ago.

Next up, Ayr will welcome Howe of Fife to Millbrae.

Both sitting in the middle of the table, this game should be really exciting.

Howe of Fife claimed the victory over Ayr in their first meeting this season, 41-29. A repeat performance with a bonus point win could see Howe overtake Ayr in the league standings.

However Ayr have been on fine form, winning their last three games, all with a bonus point to their name.

Finally, league leaders Stewartry will travel to take on West of Scotland.

Stewartry are looking to make it seven wins from seven this weekend, whilst West are looking to nab themselves a second league win.
