Throwback to 2015

24 May 2019

2015 was a special year for Glasgow Warriors as they made it all the way to the final in the Guinness PRO12 and triumphed by 18 points at the Kingspan Stadium over Munster, 31-13.

There was feverish anticipation before the match with the Warrior Nation out in force and thousands of flags fluttering in the Belfast evening air for what would go on to be a fairytale ending for the side denied by Leinster in the final the year before (2014) and two semis before that.

The Warriors were rampant throughout, after a blistering first half bore witness to a Stuart Hogg masterclass and tries from Rob Harley, DTH van der Merwe and Henry Pyrgos cross.

In the second-half, stand-off Finn Russell scored a try and Duncan Weir knocked over a conversion to put the icing on the cake. and secure the first piece of major silverware for a Scottish pro side.

Van der Merwe and Niko Matawalu played what was believed to be their final appearances for the Warriors that day (both have since returned to feature heavily this season), while longstanding stalwarts Al Kellock, Dougie Hall and Jon Welsh also earned a fitting farewell.

Glasgow Warriors are now one win away from repeating history, so we’ve looked back in the archives to share some stand-out shots and match highlights in the lead up to this Saturday’s Final.

Glasgow Warriors take on Leinster in front of a potentially record-breaking crowd in the Guinness PRO14 Final at Celtic Park on Saturday.
