Scotland recorded a historic result at Twickenham this evening, beating England on their own patch for the first time since 1983.
The only try of the game was scored by Duhan van der Merwe, with Finn Russell kicking the rest of the points in a 11-6 win.
Scotland Head Coach, Gregor Townsend was delighted with his side’s performance and said that he had a feeling they could do something special today.
He said: “There was a calmness and togetherness about the way we played and the effort level was superb.
“We’ve had a good feeling the last couple of weeks, the way the players have trained and the way the players have bonded that we would play well, but it’s the first game of the championship and we had a couple of debuts, but they performed so well.”
Townsend highlighted the pressure they put on England’s line-out and the way they defended, kicked and attacked in difficult conditions.
He also believes that the leadership his players showed was key to getting the result in London.
He added: “Our line-out was superb, we really respect England’s set-piece and we thought their line-out has been superb over the last couple of seasons, but we put pressure on it and we won a couple back.
“Our scrum was solid and defensively we were very good and we were accurate in attack, which was difficult in these conditions to move the ball wide.
“Our kick options were excellent and the players’ leadership, you could hear them on the field with no crowd and they were in control and they’ll have grown so much from that performance today.”
