Two changes for Fiji showdown

Lock Ross Bundy (Stirling County) takes the place of injured clubmate Cameron Henderson in the second-row, while fullback Matt Davidson (London Scottish) returns to the starting line-up after featuring from the bench in Monday’s defeat to Italy U20.

The reshuffled backline also sees Cameron Anderson (Wasps) shift back to outside-centre, allowing winger Rory McMichael (Heriot’s) to reclaim the number 14 jersey.

Head Coach Carl Hogg said: “We understand the significance and importance of this Saturday’s fixture against Fiji and we have 14 players within the squad who have a vested interested in next year and the outcome of the result.

“More importantly, we have seen glimpses of the potential in this current squad but now need to deliver a performance over the 80 minutes.

“Fiji will bring an unpredictable element to the game on Saturday. They love to play with ball in hand and are very unconventional. They like to offload and play at a fast and furious pace, so defensively, we’ll need to be at our best and alert at all times. We believe we have the discipline and structure to overcome their undoubtable individual skill.

“This game gives us the opportunity to ensure we’re playing in the World Rugby U20 Championship next year but also for this team to end the tournament with a winning performance. One which encapsulates the spirit and talent within the group.”

A revamped back-three sees Davidson return at full-back as Heriot’s wing pairing Jack Blain and McMichael start on opposite flanks for the third time this Championship.

Robbie McCallum (Complutense Cisneros) gets the nod at inside centre and is partnered by Anderson, who returns to the midfield after starting at full-back in Monday’s defeat to Italy U20.

Stand-off Ross Thompson (Glasgow Hawks) and scrum-half Roan Forstwick (Currie Chieftains) once again link-up at half-back.

An unchanged front-row sees Sale Sharks’ Ewan Ashman – who has five tries on the Championship so far – pack down alongside Murphy Walker (Stirling County) and Euan McLaren (Ayr).

Lock Bundy is inserted into the second-row alongside the ever-present Ewan Johnson (Racing 92), with an unaltered back-row trio sees flankers Marshall Sykes (Ayr) and Connor Boyle (Watsonians), and number 8 Tom Marshall (Newcastle Falcons) complete the pack.
