Two Out Of Two For Scotland 7S
20 Jul 2012
Scotland 7s won their second tie at the Algarve tonight by 45-0 against Romania. This followed their earlier 38-0 success against Netherlands in a competition which is serving as European qualifying tournament for next year’s Rugby World Cup 7s in Moscow. Scotland now face Spain, who have been something of a Nemesis of late, in their final tie of the day, which kicks-off at 9.46pm. Against the Romanians Scotland’s tries came from Bryon McGuigan (2), Colin Shaw, Fraser Brown (2), Andrew Turnbull and Rory Hughes. Colin Gregor kicked three conversions and Jim Thompson, two, as they kept up the pace from a 19-0 interval lead. Scotland 7s manager John Manson praised the players’ determination to go forward, which resulted in gaps out wide that were readily exploited. Scotland started with the same team as in their first tie: Dewar, Fedo and Shaw up front, Gregor, Thompson, McGuigan and Turnbull in the backs and again all five subs were used. Spain were made to work hard by the Netherlands in their second tie before emerging with a 29-14 margin.
