Women’s U18 Summer Festival | Day Two Review
29 Jul 2024Scotland Women U18 development side ended their Summer Festival with a 22-12 win over the Netherlands on Saturday 27 July.
A brace from Robyn Allan plus two further tries from Bethan Mathieson and Emily Coubrough and a conversion from Niamh Waters completed Scotland’s haul in the 70-minute battle.
On day one of the festival, Scotland recorded two losses and a win playing against the USA, Wales and the Netherlands.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Head Coach Lindsey Smith, said: “Overall we’re really pleased with how the game went. To end with a win was great but there are many parts of that day which we could be pleased with. We really improved from day one around our set piece and our ability to be a bit more physical at the breakdown.
“Over the course of the festival we had players in new positions, including Niamh Waters, who stepped into stand-off for this game and she did a great job at controlling the game.
“We had 28 players to fit into the 70 minutes and that was challenging but everyone got game time and that’s really important for their development. This is a vital step as we start to build a squad for the 2025 U18 Women’s Six Nations. As a coaching team this experience has given us a lot to look at as we move forward with the programme and explore what we need to focus on from a coaching perspective.
“This has also been a great experience to develop strong relationships both from player to player as well as coaches to players, and that will be a great platform for us to build a stronger performance environment.
