Paterson has already been in charge of New Zealand, when he officiated their 34-13 victory over England last week. He follows in the footsteps of Scottish colleague Andy Macpherson (West of Scotland Referees’ Society) who took charge of a semi-final in last year’s IRB Under 19 World Championship in Dubai. Macpherson then went on to referee the final. Macpherson, Scottish Rugby’s University and College Retention Manager, has been named today as one of the six referees who will be on duty at the Barclays Churchill Cup in England from 18 May-2 June. Scotland A are competing in that tournament and play the USA and England Saxons in their pool matches.
