PREM PREVIEW | Melrose host Ayr at the Greenyards
Round 14 of the Tennent’s Premiership will see a top of the table encounter at the Greenyards with Melrose hosting Ayr in the final round of fixtures before the Christmas break.
Just four points separate the top two, with last week’s leaders, Ayr, looking to bounce back after their home defeat against Heriot’s last weekend.
Melrose have been in fine form and haven’t lost a game since mid-October, with four consecutive league victories, but Head Coach Rob Chrystie knows a win tomorrow is by no means guaranteed:
“We welcome Ayr to the Greenyards this weekend and they are sure to be in determined mood. They have a well-balanced squad that have the ability to put teams under pressure for long periods.”
“We are excited for what is sure to be a cracking game and with a large crowd expected, hopefully both teams serve up a quality game of rugby to showcase the Tennent’s Premiership in its best light.”
Peter Murchie, Head Coach at Ayr is anticipating an exciting encounter as his side look to regain top-spot:
“Melrose away is always a big fixture in the calendar and one the players look forward to. Melrose are in good form and have threats throughout their team.”
“The players have trained well this week and know the performance levels that will be required in what I am sure will be a packed ground.”
Heriot’s, who currently sit in third place, will have the opportunity to make up ground with one of the top two if they can overcome Stirling County at Goldenacre tomorrow.
Hawick host Watsonians, with the latter looking to continue their play-off ambitions, while the home side will look to build on their win over Glasgow Hawks last week.
Boroughmuir host Edinburgh Academicals, but fourth-placed Currie Chieftains encounter against Glasgow Hawks has fallen victim to the weather.
