After a promising start from Scotland, turnover ball gives Rougerie the chance to make a great kick ahead to Medard who makes the break and crosses line after two minutes to put the French ahead; the try is converted by Parra to put the home side 7-0 ahead. Massive heave from the French pack send them up the field as the Scots try to find a way through les bleus. As the white shirts advance towards the line, Trinh-Duc takes his change with a drop goal, sailing between the posts to put France 10-0 ahead. after as many minutes. Huge kick from Southwell and more ball for Scotland but great cross kick from the French send the hosts well into the Scotland half. Knock-on from the French, however, gives Scotland the scrum. Lawson offloads well to Kellock (pictured) who gets within metres of the whitewash and burrows through the French defensive line to cross for a try, his first for Scotland. Parks adds the two points to make it 10-7 after 20 minutes. Scotland ahead in both possession and territory after the first quarter. Medard makes the break again but his pass is intercepted by Parks. As the French continue to press for the line, Richie Gray puts in some thumping tackles. Euan Murray is penalised in the scrum and the penalty goes to France, the situation repeated a few minutes later. A further infringement leads to a penalty try, converted by Parra: 17-7 after 29 minutes. France are a lighter pack – by about a stone a man – but are dominating the scrum. Medard spins through the Scottish defence again, then a Parks kick finds Walker but France soon on the counter-attack. The ball goes loose, collected by Ansbro and Scotland look to drive on. More positive signs from the Scots as Evans and Ansbro make inroads into the French defence. With five minutes to go, Walker finds space and Ansbro meakes a break. A loose ball from the Scots turns their attack to defence however as the fast pace of the game doesn’t let up. Parks kicks to touch and the whistle goes for half time. Half time: 17-7 Mike Blair is on for Rory Lawson as the second half kicks off at an equally frantic pace. Within the first two minutes, the scrum is down again, however, France win the penalty and kick to touch. A fine break from Richie Gray sees him soon engulfed in a sea of white and France go on the attack again. Poitrenaud replaces Mermoz and instantly makes his presence felt. Penalty to Scotland for holding sees Parks kick to touch, followed by a successful lineout from the visitors. Brown is then penalised for the same offence and Parra decides to take his chance between the uprights but the ball just slides wide. A double substitution (52m) as Ducalcon replaces Mas in the front row and Yachvili comes on for Parra. Blair chips through for Evans but it’s a turnover for France and a great pass between the legs from Trinh-Duc to Harinordoquy to send him over the line, the try converted by Trinh-Duc again: 24-7 to France.(54m) A flurry of substitutions around the 55 minute mark from both sides as try scorer Harinordoquy is replaced by Chabal, Lamont comes on for De Luca, Vernon for Hines and Guirado joins the fray, too. Pressure on the French and a great run from Brown see him power over the line for Scotland’s second try, the score converted by Parks to take the score to 24-14 (60m). Rennie comes on for Barclay (61m) and Thion takes the field. Quick ball for Scotland see Ansbro burst through but pressure on the Scots sees a penalty against them. Yachvili’s attempt goes wide, however. Another fine Medard break, at pace, with plenty of support and Traille touches down between the posts. The conversion from Yachvili (68m) makes it 31-14. More substitutions into the last ten minutes as Jackson replaces Parks (69m) and Mas returns. Murray Low replaces Euan Murray (71m) Ross Ford is replaced by Dougie Hall (73m) and Clerc comes on for France. A great ball from Ansbro finds Sean Lamont who sees the angle and runs through the gaps to cross the line for a third Scotland try, converted by Ruaridh Jackson (76m) 31-21. Under two minutes to go an a penalty to France, successfully slotted by Yachvili to put the hosts ahead 34-21, the final score.
