Rwc 2015: Scotland Face Springboks And Samoa
Scotland will face South Africa and Samoa in the group stages of the 2015 Rugby World Cup, as well as qualifiers from Asia and the Americas.The draw, made at the Tate Modern Art Gallery in London (Monday, 3 December) sees the national side in Pool B.Scotland have faced Samoa a total of eight times including two previous clashes in the Rugby World Cup at Murrayfield, in 1991 and 1999. The Scots have won seven of the matches, with the other a draw in Edinburgh in 1995.Scotland first faced the Springboks in 1906 and have met a further twenty one times with Scotland winning five and losing sixteen of those encounters, most recently in the November EMC Test with South Africa coming out on top 21-10 at Murrayfield.There are four pools, each with five teams, with the top two from each pool qualifying for the knock-out phases. The two qualifiers from the regions will be decided at a later date.For many younger Scottish rugby fans it will be the first opportunity to see rugby’s biggest and best showcase on their doorstep, with the Rugby World Cup last hosted on these shores by Wales in 1999. There were two pool matches held at Murrayfield when France hosted the tournament in 2007.??Mark Dodson, Scottish Rugby Chief Executive, who attended the draw in London said: “It’s an exciting draw for us and we know the impact big tournaments can have on invigorating sport throughout the UK. This is the fourth largest sporting event in the world and we should be excited about the possibilities arising from it.The process is underway to find a Head Coach for Scotland following the decision by Andy Robinson to step down from the role following the defeat to Tonga in Aberdeen on November 24.??Mark Dodson continued: “Clearly there is a lot of work needing to be done before 2015 and the first task for me is to bring in the right Head Coach, someone who can get the best out of this group of players and make the country proud of their national team.??”It’s just ten days since Andy decided to step down but we have already received a number of applications for the job.
