Scotland Rwc Camp: Day Two Update
30 Aug 2011
All 30 players took part in a light one hour training session as Scotland’s Rugby World Cup squad continued their acclimatisation at their Gold Coast training camp today. On their second day in Australia, the players also split into backs and forwards in the afternoon for some hand/eye co-ordination drills for the former and some lineout ploys for the pack.Training will be stepped up gradually this week as the players and coaches prepare for the opening Rugby World Cup match – against Romania in Invercargill a week on Saturday (10 September). The warm sunshine from day one in Sanctuary Cove was replaced today by darker skies which threatened rain for much of the day, without coming to much until dusk when there was a spectacular tropical thunderstorm, complete with forked lightning flashes and deafening rumbles of thunder. Hailstones, the proverbial size of golf balls, were meanwhile reported in nearby Brisbane. Currently the coaches, led by Andy Robinson, are concentrating on the Romania match, while also mindful that Scotland’s second game, against Georgia, follows just four days later. Scotland are not the only country to have opted for a Queensland training camp. Canada are also in the state and they have a controlled training session with a Queensland Select in Brisbane tonight.
