2026 NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIP

The traditional Scotland games at Scottish Gas Murrayfield every November, known previously as the Autumn Tests or Autumn Nations Series (last year, the Quilter Nations Series) will still be played at the same time this year, but now make up the second half of the new global international tournament called the Nations Championship. This new competition sees the world’s best teams from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres go head-to-head across two connected series: the first three rounds in July replace the old Summer Tours followed by the final three rounds in November (replacing the old Autumn Tests) all leading to a Finals Weekend, this year being played in London at the end of Novemeber.

Fiji v Scotland

Saturday 18 July (KO tbc)

The Flying Fijians are playing their three ‘home’ games in the opening rounds of this year’s Nations Championship in the UK: against Wales (Round 1) in Cardiff; England (Round 2) in Liverpool; and finally, their Round 3 match against Scotland at Scottish Gas Murrayfield. Although Scotland beat Fiji 57-17 at the same venue two years ago, the last time the two teams met – in Suva last summer – the hosts won 29-14.

Scotland v New Zealand

Saturday 7 November, kick-off 2.10pm

Ranked number two in the world, New Zealand were runners-up in the Rugby World Cup 2023 (losing by a single point to South Africa in the final) and returned to Scottish Gas Murrayfield in 2025 for the first time in three years. Last year’s epic saw Scotland fight back from being 0-17 down at half-time to level the scores going into the last quarter, only for a couple of moments of brilliance from substitute Damian McKenzie to give the All Blacks the win.

Scotland v Australia

Sunday 15 November, kick-off 3.10pm

Hosts of the next Rugby World Cup in 2027, Australia are currently 7th in the world rankings, helped by notable wins over South Africa and Argentina in last year’s Rugby Championship. The last time they played at Scottish Gas Murrayfield, in November 2024, tries from captain Sione Tuipulotu (in front of his granny who’d been flown over from Australia especially for the game), Duhan van der Merwe and Finn Russell helped Scotland to a 27-13 win.

Scotland v Japan

Saturday 21 November, kick-off 2.10pm

It’s been five years since Japan last visited Edinburgh, when Scotland scored four tries in a 29-20 win. The Brave Blossoms (who famously made the knock-out stages of their own Rugby World Cup in 2019 after a narrow win against Scotland) finished runners-up in last year’s Pacific Nations Cup (losing 27-33 to Fiji in the final) and recorded a famous win against Wales and a narrow loss to Australia.

2027 GUINNESS SIX NATIONS

Scotland have home advantage for the first two rounds of this season’s championship, playing Italy and Wales at Scottish Gas Murrayfield on consecutive weekends before an away trip to France. The final home game is against Ireland in Round 4 (on a Friday night for the first time) with the tournament finishing away to England.

Scotland v Italy

Saturday 6 February (Kick-off 2.10pm)

What an opening game! After the narrow loss in Rome this year in horrendous monsoon conditions, Scotland will be in determined mood to kick off the 2027 championship with a performance more akin to the one at Scottish Gas Murrayfield two years ago when a hat-trick from Player of the Match Huw Jones helped Scotland to an emphatic 31-19 win.

Scotland v Wales

Saturday 13 February (Kick-off 4.40pm)

Always one of the most memorable and colourful matchdays at Scottish Gas Murrayfield, the game against France never fails to excite. The last time Les Bleus were here was a thriller, with the Scots losing 16-20 despite going in at half-time in the lead and scoring what the crowd thought was a try right at the end (alas, a lack of conclusive evidence couldn’t overturn the ref’s on-field decision). Another cracker in store!

Scotland v Ireland

Friday 5 March (Kick-off 8.10pm)

This season’s runners-up visit Scottish Gas Murrayfield for Scotland’s first ever Friday night game in the Guinness Six Nations Championship. Two years ago tries from Ben White and Duhan van der Merwe – a spectacular score in the corner following a classic off-load from Stafford McDowall – weren’t enough to stop the reigning Guinness Six Nations champions from taking the win.
