Scotland To Play Fiji In Irb World Sevens Opener
5 Oct 2009
Scotland 7s will face Fiji in the opening match of the IRB Sevens World Series when this season’s competition kicks off in Dubai in December. Scotland have also been drawn with the hard hitting Samoans and Zimbabwe, in Group B of the tournament that begins on Friday 4th December. Scotland 7s head coach Stephen Gemmell said: “We are confident we can build on the momentum gained from our recent performances at Twickenham and Murrayfield at the end of last season’s IRB World Series. The Fijians have a tremendous history in the sport but the boys will be up for the challenge. It is a privilege to open this 11th year of the World Sevens Series, especially in Dubai where we have always enjoyed fantastic support.”We beat Samoa at Murrayfield and hope we can replicate that feat this time around in Dubai. The Zimbabweans will also be a tough team to beat as we know to our cost from last season.”
