Scotland U18 20 – 12 Newcastle Falcons Academy
Scotland under-18 followed the senior national team to victory today (21 August) in a spirited victory over premiership academy outfit, Newcastle Falcons. Head coach, Grant McKelvey said:We were up against good premiership opposition today. The game was a big physical test for our forwards. They were strong in the scrum and each player’s defensive game was positive. It was a step up in intensity and pace from last week, but still a big learning curve for our boys. The visitors put pressure on the north English side up front and challenged them physically. This saw Scotland crossing the whitewash on three occasions, with tries coming from flanker Robbie Tait, winger Ed Farquharson and inside centre Neil Herron. In addition to this stand-off, Callum Irvine added a penalty and one conversion to the Scots’ tally. Scotland under-18s: 15 Sam Moncur; 14 Jamie Farndale, 13 Blair Hutchison, 12 Neil Herron, 11 Ed Farquharson; 10 Callum Irvine, 9 Ramsay Young; 1 James Malcolm, 2 Scott Rendall, 3 Chris Barnes, 4 Duncan Campbell, 5 Jonny Gray, 6 Peter Redmayne, 8 Cameron Turner, 7 Robbie Tait. All subs used: 16 Ross Murray, 17 Tom Moncur, 18 Scott Jackson, 19 Shaun MacDonald, 20 Murdo McAndrew, 21 Ben Cooper, 22 Damien Hoyland.
