Scotland U18 select beat Leeds Academy U18 in Peebles
A Scotland under-18 select, playing as Scottish Districts XV U18 beat Leeds Academy U18, 57-7, at Peebles RFC yesterday (Sunday 18 August). The side – missing a number of the players who, earlier this summer, took part in a two-week training camp in Valladolid – enjoyed a two-day camp in the town with the match the culmination of their weekend. The young Scots beat their cross-border rivals by nine tries and six conversions to a converted try and will continue to have their performances monitored by the coaches in the build-up to the next camp in October.Head coach Eddie Pollock said: It was a team performance from all our players, 1 to 23. The quality of the forward ball was very good and some of the [nine] tries were out of the top drawer. We’ve got a lot of competition now for places for squad for the FIRA European competition in March.Scottish Districts XV v Leeds Academy U18 at Peebles RFC, kick-off 1.30pm, Sunday 18 August(selected from – tries/conversions)Lewis Anderson (Marr/Marr College)Scott Burnside (Heriot’s FP) *Fraser Christie (Stewart’s Melville College)James Couper (GHA) * (1 try)Craig Cowan (Jed Thistle/Jedburgh GS)Scott Cummings (Glasgow Hawks/Kelvinside Academy) * (1 try)Daniel Elkington (Newcastle Falcons/Sedbergh)Matthew Emmison (Ellon/Ellon Academy)Zander Fagerson (Glasgow Hawks)James Francis (Harlequins/Epsom School)Hugh Fraser (Merchiston Castle School) (1 try) *Adam Hastings (Millfield School) (6 conversions)Ruari Howarth (Gala Wanderers) (2 tries)Rory Hutchison (Shelford/MPW Cambridge)Christopher Jollands (High School of Dundee) *Josh Laird (Kirkcaldy/Strathallan) (1 try)Andrew Manson (Stewart’s Melville College)Robbie Nairn (Currie/Currie Community HS) *Reuben Norville (London Irish/St Pauls) (1 try)Gary Robertson (Gala Wanderers) (2 tries)Callum Sheldon (Newcastle Falcons/Queen Elizabeth School)Matthew Smith (Stirling County/Stirling HS)Lewis Wynne (Stirling County)* Scottish Institute of Sport supported player 2013-14
