The group consists of 19 forwards and 15 backs, and will get their championship underway at home to Italy U20 on Friday 31 January at Hive Stadium.

Johnny Ventisei will captain the squad, having led the side against Wales U20 in a friendly in December.

Freddy Douglas, who won a first Scotland senior cap against Portugal in November last year, is selected as he nears a return from injury.

Douglas is joined in the back row selections by Reuben Logan, son of former Scotland wing Kenny Logan, as well as Billy Allen, Oliver Duncan, Oliver Finlayson-Russell and Christian Lindsay.

The second-row options include Mark Fyffe, Bart Godsell, Dan Halkon, Charlie Moss and Pat Spence.

Props Ollie Blyth-Lafferty, Oliver McKenna, Will Pearce, Jake Shearer, Jamie Stewart and Ryan Whitefield are joined by hookers Joe Roberts and Seb Stephen as front row options.

In the backs, scrum-halves Noah Cowan, Hamish MacArthur and Hector Patterson combine with stand-offs Isaac Coates, Matthew Urwin and Ross Wolfenden to make up the half-backs.

Captain Ventisei is joined in the centres by Angus Hunter, Campbell Waugh and Kerr Yule.

The squad is completed by back three players Jack Brown, Nairn Moncrieff, Guy Rogers, Cameron van Wyk and Fergus Watson.

Tickets to all three Scotland U20 home games are still available.

Murray said: “We’re really excited to work with this group during the Six Nations and for them to deliver the performances we know they’re capable of.

“We’ve got a really exciting squad with a combination of players who were involved in our U20 Trophy win last summer as well as new additions. The players really enjoyed playing in front of our fans at Hive Stadium across the Trophy campaign so having three home fixtures in the Six Nations this year is great for them.

“This is the beginning of a big year for us as we make our return to the World Rugby U20 Championship in summer, so we want to start strong and play well across the Six Nations with five performances that we can be proud of.”
