Scotland Women U18 7s Squad named for Home Nations

15 Aug 2019

Scotland Women U18 7s Head Coach Graeme Blackhall has announced the squad that will travel to Wales for the U18 Home Nations this weekend.

The squad have been training together for the last few months as part of a wider group that was selected following a Talent ID Day, in which 60 players attended.

Graeme Blackhall said on the selection, “After some tough selection decisions the squad had their final training session yesterday before we leave to go to Wales. There is a lot of talent within the group, and therefore training has been designed to stretch them both physically and mentally.

“The players have responded well, looking sharper and more comfortable as we now reach the first tournament of the season. We finished in a positive place last night and the players are excited to get the jersey on and give it their all this weekend. I’m looking forward to seeing how they respond on the international stage.”

“I am delighted that two of the players on the squad will be bringing experience from playing within the Scotland Women 7s set up. It is a testament to the strength of our programme that they made the step up and I am sure that they will be able use this experience to support the team both on and off the field.”

Katie McLaren from Stirling County has been named as captain for this tournament. McLaren had the experience of playing in the 2018 Home Nations alongside Eva Donaldson, Ciara McCulloch, Meryl Smith and Evie Wills.

Smith and Wills have also been capped for Scotland Women 7s. Wills in the 2018 Rugby Europe Grand Prix Series and Smith more recently at the World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series and one of the Rugby Europe Legs this summer.
