Scotland’s Dark Blues go green with 2021/22 kit

Scottish Rugby and its official kit partner Macron have today unveiled the 2021/22 Scotland international match kits which will be worn by all National and age grade teams in the coming season.

Scottish Rugby Principal Partner Peter Vardy will feature on the front of the Men’s National Team match shirts for the first time following the announcement of its new four-year title sponsorship in April, while the SP Energy Networks sponsor logo will again appear on the Women’s jerseys.

In line with Scottish Rugby’s commitment to sustainability all jerseys and shorts are made from Eco-Armevo a 100% polyester fabric manufactured from recycled plastic bottles and meet the Global Recycled Standard Certification.

The new men’s kits will be seen for the first time in the Autumn Nations Series as Scotland host Tonga, Australia, South Africa and Japan at BT Murrayfield over consecutive weekends from 30 October. Scotland Women will play their first game in the new designs later in the year.

The new Home kit features Scotland’s traditional navy blue. The jersey has a crew neck collar with light blue and purple detailing, colours that reference the Scottish Saltire and a thistle. The sleeves are trimmed with the same colour combination. The Macron Hero logo is embroidered in white on the right breast, with the Scottish Rugby thistle on the left. A Saltire is also positioned just underneath collar on the back.

One of the new kits’ most striking design features appears on a panel on the lower back of the shirt and consists of a repeated tonal embossed thistle motif. The shorts are white with navy blue stitching and a small purple panel. The socks are predominantly navy blue with purple tops trimmed with a slim blue hoop.

The Alternate strip is white and also features a crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs with blue and purple detailing. The Macron Hero logo and the Scottish Rugby thistle are embroidered in navy blue on the chest. The design follows the lead of the Home kit, with the embossed thistle motif appearing on the lower part of the back of the jersey. The shorts are navy blue with a small purple panel, while the socks are white with two slim hoops in blue and purple at the top.

The men’s range of Scotland shirts includes the authentic match bodyfit shirt together with polyester and cotton replica versions. Female fans have the option of purchasing a match jersey as well as replicas in both cotton and polyester, with the polyester replica is also available in all junior sizes.

Scottish Rugby’s Head of Group Marketing & Commercial, Toni Blackhurst, said: “Once again Macron has created attractive and innovative designs for our National Teams’ match kits. With our increasing commitment to sustainability it is great to see the incorporation of eco-friendly fabrics in both the bodyfit match kits as well as the replica shirts for fans. Our working relationship with Macron continues to go from strength to strength and was galvanised during the unsettling times created by the pandemic. We thank them for their continued support and look forward to seeing our players and fans wearing the new kits throughout the season ahead.”

Macron’s Senior Sports Marketing Manager, Ross Cook, said: “It’s such an exciting time to be finally releasing the new Scotland kit. Our designers have worked hand-in-hand with Scottish Rugby and the official Scottish Rugby store, taking on board all aspects of feedback, to create what we believe is an exciting range and designs that both the fans and players will see as something special.

“As a passionate Scottish rugby fan, it’s nice to see the return of some heritage colours, bringing back the iconic thistle purple along with some touches of saltire blue.

“I can’t wait to see the team striding out the tunnel at BT Murrayfield, during the up and coming Autumn Nations Series where we hope players on the pitch and the fans in the stadium will wear this collection with passion and pride.”

Scotland International Jamie Ritchie said: “As a squad we can’t wait to get playing rugby in front of the Scotland fans during the Autumn Nations Series. As ever Macron have knocked it out of the park. The new kits look and feel great and I am sure they will also be popular with our supporters.”

Scotland International Lisa Thomson added: “We all take a huge amount of pride each time we represent our country and the new kits for this season look amazing. I’m impressed with the use of recycled materials by Macron and the attention to detail in the design is really good.”

The new Scotland kit is available for purchase exclusively from both official Scottish Rugby Stores at BT Murrayfield and in Glasgow or online at shop.scottishrugby.org from 9am on Thursday 9 September. All other authorised Macron retailers will go on sale from 9am on Thursday 16 September. A broad range of price points and options are available across the new season’s kit offer.
