Scotland’s preparations conclude for Rugby World Cup 7s
The preparations for the 2013 Rugby World Cup 7s in Moscow came to an end this morning for Scotland 7s, after a sharp and concise captain’s run in the former 1980 Olympic Stadium complex, where Allan Wells won 100m gold. Scotland 7s are now just over 24 hours away from beginning their fifth campaign in the competition that is seen as the pinnacle of the abbreviated game, where they’ll take-on Japan, Russia and South Africa.For head coach Stephen Gemmell, this is his second outing at the Rugby World Cup 7s having been involved four years ago, 2009, in Dubai. He said: “The week here in Moscow has gone really well and our accuracy and intensity has lifted everyday as we approach tomorrow’s opening match v Japan.”We’re ready to go and are in a good place. The players know what they need to do. They know the calls, they know the passages of play and they know how they’re capable of performing.”All that is left to do is go out there at 7.36pm (local time) tomorrow and apply ourselves.”Scotland 7s’ Rugby World Cup 7s campaign begins tomorrow evening against Japan at 4.36pm (BST). They will then play the remainder of their Group B fixtures against, hosts Russia at 10.02am (BST) and then 4.16pm (BST) against South Africa. To qualify for the Melrose Cup knock-out rounds they must win their group or be one of the top two runners-up from the six competing pools.
